In order to deal with this project we must clearly be cognizant of photovoltaic systems and thyristor converter of three phase. The photovoltaic cell is a device which converts sunlight into direct electricity with the help of semiconductor materials. The output efficiency of photovoltaic cell is tremendously growing to its peak and the sun’s radiation consists of tiny particles called photons. These photons strike directly on the photovoltaic(PV) cell as they are incident on the surface and as a result the free electrons get excited and generates electricity directly. Most of the photovoltaic systems follow maximum power point tracking(MPPT) principle whereas this principle is used to obtain maximum power from solar inverters and also converts power from dc to ac. Its time to know about the thyristor where this term is derived from the words ‘thyratron and transistor’.
Most oftenly, thyristors are four layered semiconductor device used in ac circuits during every cycle the forward current drops to zero so a turn off condition is needed. Therefore the thyristor acts as a switch and it can be also used as an alternative for voltage regulator or a rectifier. Thyristor converter can be also called as controlled converters and silicon controlled rectifier known as SCR is most commonly used type.
Each thyristor has a power circuit, triggering circuit and a control circuit. In case of dc circuit thyristor converter undergoes forced commutation whereas in ac circuits, the process of natural commutation is necessary. PV design and three phase thyristor converter layout can be materialized using some computer software. For better reference MATLAB software gives you appropriate output waveforms for respective parameters.
