Electronic engineering projects are quite simpler in nature and controlling any appliances either from home or out of home using text messaging is the basic idea of easy electronic projects for students. The components whichever we needed are GSM mobile phone, voltage regulator, transformer, relays and their appropriate circuit designs.

Though home automation process is involved, microcontroller plays a major role in 8051 projects and a type of 89s52 is also used and apart from hardware, softwares such as keil programming, PRO 51 programmer are also used. The home appliances which we aim to control are TV’s, fans, washing machine, refrigerator, bulbs etc and we need not worry about whether the condition of the appliance is either ON or OFF. The 8051 microcontroller is interfaced with the GSM mobile and the total programming and functioning of 8051 microcontroller is clearly explained. The keil software helps to generate the embedded application for virtually every 8051 derivative and Pro 51 programming software is used to interface the microcontroller with the motorola C168 GSM mobile to decode the received message.
The operation of this project can be basically compared with simple remote control principle but via SMS service. Normally this project involves,

Relays plays a vital role in protection of any installed systems electronics and communication engineering projects and microcontroller helps in serial data communication. These electronic projects not only deal with remote controlling but also deal with remote monitoring and this project will be helpful to smart homes where the domestic appliances are controlled smartly anywhere from the world. There are various electronic projects where the appliances can be controlled through internet but this way of controlling home appliances via SMS is quite safer and effective.
This content contains necessary project ideas, circuit board designs, block diagrams, theory of microcontroller operation, command sets etc in downloadable form and hope this may benefit both “final year electronic engineering” students and diploma students to carry out their macro and mini projects respectively.
